We travel to Alba de Tormes which is the location of the tomb of Saint Teresa of Avila. We celebrated mass at the Carmelite Monastery in a small chapel off the main church. We were able to tour the museum including the cell where she passed away and the museum including the tomb of St. Teresa. However, she is not currently in her tomb because her body has been removed for further testing. It will be on display beginning May 11th at the monastery.
We drove on to Salamanca which is a beautiful city containing two universities. Our hotel Abba is beautiful. The rooms are huge and lunch again was amazing. After lunch we met a local guide. Mario and enjoyed a walking tour of the historic quarter of the University and the cathedrals. There are two - the old and the new. The old cathedral is not used much and contains a lot of old items of no real interest to people and the floors are in severe disrepair. The new cathedral building was begun in the 1600's and is not actually finished.
After our tour we ended up at the plaza Major where Ken met us. We experienced some tapas before taking a cab back to the hotel while most everyone else walked - in a torrential downpour. This is our last night in Spain. Tomorrow on to Portugal.
